Words from the Barn
A quiet letter from the roads of Michigan’s Thumb.
Words from the Barn is not a newsletter in the usual sense. It does not arrive on a schedule built around a calendar or a campaign. It arrives when there is something worth sending — a new photograph that stopped the work, a change in the light, a note from a road that most people have not driven.
It is written by one photographer moving slowly through a landscape that rewards attention. It is sent to people who have asked to hear about it.
What you will receive
- New photographs from the archive as they are completed.
- The month’s light — which barn, which road, which season is at the center of the work right now.
- An occasional note from the field. Not a journal. A dispatch.
What you will not receive
- Promotions timed to holidays.
- Content written to fill a slot.
- More than the work warrants.
A quieter circle is also kept
For those who want to go further — an extra image each month, first look at the month’s light, and once a year a small print made to order — the Quiet Circle will open when the letter has found its footing. Leave your address below and you will hear about it first.
The signup form is on the homepage →
Leave an address there and the first letter will find you when the next road is worth reporting.
